Bold

SilverYachts in Western Australia delivered Bold in 2019, designed by Espen Øino as a “sports activity vessel” that borrows from the shadow-boat idea. Her aluminium hull is light and shallow-draught rather than ice-strengthened: she has a top speed of 23 knots, a published range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots, a certified helideck with a hangar and an open main deck that can carry a 15-metre tender. Her broker says she covered more than 120,000 nautical miles in her first five years.

In short

Bold takes a different route to expedition capability from the steel, ice-classed explorers: an 85.3-metre aluminium hull with a 2.7-metre draught, a top speed of 23 knots and no ice notation in her Lloyd's Register class (SilverYachts). Her owner and Espen Øino built her as a “sports activity vessel” around a 400 m² open main deck that can take a helicopter, a 15-metre tender or loads of up to 12 tonnes, with a certified helideck and a hangar (Boat International, SilverYachts). The shipyard gives 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots and 60 days of autonomy (SilverYachts). Her broker reports a five-year circumnavigation of more than 120,000 nautical miles, from the South Pacific to the Mediterranean (Ocean Independence).

Build history
Keel laid in late 2014 as project Silver Loft, the first of the Silver Loft design; launched in May 2019 and delivered in July 2019. Lloyd's Register records her date of build as 5 July 2019. Ice class
None: her Lloyd's Register class is 100A1 Passenger Yacht Mono G6, LMC UMS, with no ice notation
In ice, in practice
Bold is built for speed and shallow water, not for ice: a semi-displacement aluminium hull with a high length-to-beam ratio and a 2.7 m draught. With no ice notation she has no rated ice thickness, and no voyage of hers in polar ice is documented by the shipyard, her class society or the yachting press. Her charter broker lists the Arctic among the summer regions she can be chartered in

Helicopter
One certified helideck on the main deck aft, with a D-value of 13 and flush lighting for night operations, certified for the Leonardo AW109S, ACH145 or Bell 429; a hangar for long passages that doubles as a cinema and disco; a 3,000-litre Jet-A1 fuelling system; and parking for a second helicopter on the aft bridge deck
Open deck
A 400 m² multi-purpose open main deck with no height limit that can carry tenders, sailboats, cars or submarines up to 15 m long and 12 tonnes
Tenders and toys
Two Rupert 10.5 m twin-engine tenders, one open and one with a cabin designed by Øino; a Rupert 6 m tender; a Zodiac SOLAS rescue boat; a forward toy garage for jet skis, Laser dinghies and surfboards; a floating dock
Submersible
None listed by the shipyard or her charter brokers; the open deck is rated for a submarine up to 15 m and 12 tonnes
Support vessel
None; her design is partly derived from the shadow-vessel idea, so she carries her own tenders and helicopter
Where she has been
She left Perth in July 2019 and crossed to Sardinia in 21 days, meeting six-metre waves between the Maldives and the Gulf of Aden; over New Year 2019–20 she was in St Barths on her first Caribbean season. In her first year she went on across the Atlantic to Florida, the Grenadines and the Bahamas, up the US East Coast to Canada and back to the Mediterranean by the northern route, about 30,000 nautical miles in all, according to her owner. In March 2022 her captain planned a season through the Panama Canal to Patagonia for six weeks, then the Galápagos, British Columbia and Alaska. Her sale listing in 2026 reports a five-year circumnavigation of more than 120,000 nautical miles, from the South Pacific to the Mediterranean and from Indonesia to the Caribbean

She was built for long-range travel with a helicopter: 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots, 60 days of autonomy, a certified helideck with a hangar and fuel for the helicopter, and a 400 m² open deck for tenders up to 15 metres (SilverYachts). Unlike most explorers she has a light aluminium hull and a top speed of 23 knots.
Does Bold have an ice class?

How far can Bold travel without refuelling?
The shipyard gives 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots, or 3,000 at 17 knots, from 151,000 litres of diesel (SilverYachts). Brokers quote other figures, from 4,000 nautical miles at 18 knots to 7,000 in economy mode (Ocean Independence).
Can Bold carry a helicopter?
Yes. Her aft deck has a certified helideck for an AW109S, ACH145 or Bell 429, with a hangar for long passages and a 3,000-litre Jet-A1 system (SilverYachts). A second helicopter can be parked on the aft bridge deck (Boat International).
Where has Bold been?
After her delivery voyage from Perth to Sardinia in 2019 she spent her first winter in the Caribbean (Boat International, Superyacht Times). Her broker reports a five-year circumnavigation of more than 120,000 nautical miles, from the South Pacific and Indonesia to the Mediterranean and the Caribbean (Ocean Independence).
Can you charter Bold, and who owns her?
Yes, through Y.CO and Edmiston, for up to 12 guests, from €875,000 a week in both winter and summer: winter 2026–27 and summer 2027 at Edmiston, the same winter and summer rate at Y.CO (both checked October 2026). She is also for sale at €89 million (YachtBuyer). She is reported to be owned by Guido Krass, the founder of SilverYachts (Yachts International, August 2020).
