Hodor

Hodor is a shadow vessel: she sails with a larger yacht, reportedly the 87-metre Feadship Lonian, and carries what the mothership has no room for. Incat Crowther designed her on a stretched fast-ferry catamaran hull, and Astilleros Armón built her in aluminium at Burela, Spain, delivering her in 2019. She has a certified helipad, a garage and launch system for a submersible, a hydraulic lift for a 17-metre chase boat, a dive centre with a decompression chamber, and a range of 5,500 nautical miles at 14 knots.

In short

Hodor is not a stand-alone explorer but a support ship: the first of Incat Crowther's ShadowCat catamarans, built to carry a mothership's helicopter, submersible, tenders and toys, and to offer a stable platform for moving guests from helicopter to tender (Incat Crowther). Her expedition kit is that of a small offshore vessel: a CAP 437 helipad for helicopters of up to 6 tonnes, a garage for a Seamagine Aurora-3 submersible with an air-caster launch to the beam cranes, an ROV davit, and a dive centre with a decompression chamber (Incat Crowther, Boat International). With 160,000 litres of diesel she is rated for 5,500 nautical miles at 14 knots and can reach 22.5 knots, fast enough to run ahead of her mothership and prepare the toys before it arrives (Incat Crowther, Boat International). She has no ice notation, and her voyages have been in open water, from the Bahamas and Hawaii to Alaska, British Columbia and the Mediterranean (SuperYacht Times, Boat International).

She is based on Incat Crowther's all-aluminium 55-metre fast ferry platform, stretched by 11 metres, with hull engineering taken from offshore crew boats such as the SEACOR CREWzer class and Incat Crowther's 70-metre fast crew boats. The yard and designer chose a catamaran mainly so that the 17-metre chase boat could be launched and recovered safely. She was the first of the ShadowCat range; the 68.2-metre Wayfinder followed in 2021

Submersible
A three-person Seamagine Aurora-3 submersible with a 1,000-metre depth rating, delivered on board in 2020, kept in a garage in the centre of the vessel; air casters move it from the garage to the beam cranes for launching. A portable davit on the foredeck launches her ROV Baird Maritime (2019) lists an Aurora-5, and Boat International (2021) a five-person submarine
